Is your new Office Location right for your Staff?
New Office Location
Choosing the right location can be a real minefield. There's so much to think about to satisfy your budget, space requirements and the needs of your business. Equally important, however, and one that is often overlooked, is the needs of your staff.
A change in business location can cause a lot of inconvenience for your staff if it is not thought through, and you need to keep the needs of your staff at the heart of your relocation decisions. If you are in the process of choosing a new location for your business, make sure you consider the following to ensure you accommodate the needs of your staff:
Transportation
If the majority of your staff use transportation to travel to and from work, you will want to ensure there are adequate links so that it's easy for them to commute. If you are looking at offices out of town where there are no transport links, you may want to consider putting on shuttle buses to make it more convenient for them.
Parking
Parking is an important consideration whether you are considering a central or out-of-town office location. Whilst parking is a premium in central locations, you still need to figure out which parking lots will be available for your staff and clients.
Amenities
Find out what local amenities are available close by such as shops, eateries and cafe bars. Staff will appreciate nearby eateries and shops to get their lunch, and they will also be useful facilities from which to entertain clients.
Noise
Examine the nearby facilities for building works or busy roads. If your staff are used to working in a quiet office, they may find their productivity affected if you move you business to a noisy area.
Security
No one wants to work in a neighborhood that is unsafe, and your staff are no different. If your office building is located down a side street, make sure there is adequate lighting at night so that staff don't feel vulnerable if they leave the building after dark.
There are a whole host of things to consider when choosing the right location, review this Office Space Checklist before touring any office properties to make sure you cover all angles.
